Alcohol is an often overlooked element in development work. It is included in the Sustainable Development Goals in its own right (3.5) and is related to a number of other goals, including: eradication of poverty, non-communicable diseases ( 3.4), traffic related injuries (3.6) , HIV and TB epidemic (3.3), gendered violence (5.2) and inequalities (10). There are also issues related to sustainable water use (6.1) and access to safe and inclusive public spaces (11.7). Many low and middle income countries experience an increase in alcohol, consumption as the economy expands. Impacts on educational opportunities, productivity and social and economic costs need further investigation. For many countries effective policy is not implemented in a timely fashion. Opportunities for collaborative research and advocacy across middle income countries will be explored.
This event is co-hosted by GAPA, FORUT and Thai Health Foundation.
It is free to all participants, but numbers are limited.
