This one (1) day workshop is aimed at AOD workers whose adult clients have children. The workshop will incorporate ideas and skills from the Let’s Talk model to assist workers to speak to clients about the needs of their children, the impact of their substance use on children, and their relationships with other family members. Skills for engaging with children will also be touched on briefly, although it is not expected that workers will routinely be doing child focussed work.

Learning outcomes:

  • Develop confidence and skills in working with clients who are parents.
  • Identify a range of potential impacts of parental substance use on children and on parenting capacity.
  • Explore transgenerational impacts of substance misuse.
  • Apply Let’s Talk principles and practices to work in AOD context.
