Healthy Ageing

Healthy ageing is the process of developing and maintaining the functional ability that enables wellbeing in older age”- World Health Organization, 2015, World Report on Ageing and Health. The Swedish Institute of Public Health define healthy ageing simply as “optimising opportunities for good health, so that older people can take an active part in society and enjoy an independent and high quality of life”.

Optimising our health as we age is influences by a number of factors including how physically active a person is, their capacity to maintain a healthy diet, how connected they are to friends, family and community and their ability to be engaged in and to contribute to these relationships  and their access to adequate financial resources.
